Resolve My Traffic Ticket

Question: I have received a traffic citation, how do I resolve my ticket?

Answer: If you have received a traffic citation, and the officer has marked the ticket Court required, you will need to appear in court at the designated time given to speak with the Prosecuting Attorney regarding your ticket.

If you have received a traffic citation, and the officer has marked the ticket No Court Required, you have the following options available:

1.You may plead guilty and pay the fine

In Person at the Winnebago County Circuit Clerk’s Office room 111
Mailing a check or money order along with the signed blue copy of your ticket to:
   Winnebago County Circuit Clerk’s Office, 400 W. State St Rm 111, Rockford, Illinois 61101

2.You may plead guilty, and (if you are eligible) you may sign up for Traffic School

Mailing a check or money order along with the signed blue copy of your ticket to:
   Winnebago County Circuit Clerk’s Office, 400 W. State St Rm 111, Rockford, Illinois 61101

If you are under the age of 18, you will need to ask the Court’s permission to take traffic school. A parent or guardian will need to be present with you on your court date. A court date for this request may be obtained at the Circuit Clerk’s Office room 108.

If you are under the age of 21, you will NOT be eligible for the Online Safety class; you will be required to take the 4 hour Onsite Traffic Safety class.

More information regarding the traffic school eligibility requirements may be obtained by contacting the Rock Valley Traffic Safety Program at 815- 921-3940 or visit their website.  Please be aware the www.gototrafficschool.com DOES NOT meet the supervision requirements for Winnebago County.

3. You may also plead not guilty to your citation by signing the back of the blue copy and returning it to the Circuit Clerk’s Office Room 108 in person or by mail, and a court date will be assigned to you.

You may contact the Illinois Secretary of State for information regarding your Driver’s License Status or the affects your ticket may have upon your driving privileges.
